South County Office:
The South County Office located at the Gearhart Plaza has been very successful over the past year. The facility is utilized daily and is serving primarily children and families at this time. CBH is exploring the possibilities of obtaining more space to allow for even more services over the next year.
Integration with Developmental Disabilities:
Talks are underway between CBH and Coast Rehabilitation Services to help integrate mental health care with services for the developmentally disabled. Because of contracting in Clatsop County, CBH is limited to provide only mental health care that addresses specific mental health issues. Behavioral issues related to a developmental disability and case management services are not able to be provided by CBH. The proposed integration would outstation a mental health professional at Coast Rehabilitation Services, the cost would be shared to allow for better overlap of services that would be able to address both the mental health and behavioral components and enhance communication between the two systems.
Children's Day Treatment Being Explored:
After consultations with school systems over the past year, the need for increased, specialized services to those children experiencing mental health issues that interfere with their ability to function in traditional classroom settings is now being explored. Discussions are in the preliminary stages and those interested in this program should contact CBH.
Pilot Project to Identify ADHD Early:
Bennett Garner, has proposed that by identifying and treating ADHD at an early stage can have positive effects on both the child and the entire classroom setting. He is working with CBH staff, school personnel from Seaside and Astoria School Districts, and is enlisting the support of medical providers, to help identify and treat children at an early stage. Should the pilot project be successful, it is hoped to be utilized in other Clatsop County School Districts.
Faster Access to Services:
While CBH has had daily walk in access to services, those services have been improved to include a full mental health assessment for most of those seeking seeking services that day. If the assessment indicates the need for further services, the individual is placed immediately into services.
